Chesterfield County student writing in her book

Purple Pen Power

Purple Pen Power is a reading and writing project for second and first graders in the form of a book exchange between Winterpock and Hopkins Elementary Schools. To culminate a year of story writing, second graders at Winterpock Elementary will write their own hardcover books. Toward the end of the year, the Winterpock Elementary second graders will visit with first graders at Hopkins Elementary to present them with a copy of their book. In addition, the Hopkins first graders will be provided with a blank hard copy book that they will use the next year when they are in second grade to write their own story. In return, the Hopkins second graders will do a book exchange with rising first graders at Winterpock Elementary. The Purple Pen Power will enhance reading and writing skills and encourage students to be responsible global citizens by embracing community partnerships.

This project is funded by the CEF MCD Awards Program.
