2019 CCPS Convocation

August 27, 2019

On August 27 over 5,000 CCPS faculty members gathered at the VSU Multi-Purpose Center to kick-off the 2019/20 school year. Teachers and administrators were welcomed to the VSU campus by CCPS Superintendent Dr. Merv Daugherty disguised as the VSU Trojan. While the VSU Trojan Explosion marching band played, for over an hour and a half  Dr. Daugherty gave high-fives and handshakes in the Trojan mascot costume, only revealing himself on center stage as he prepared to make opening remarks.

All 64 schools were in attendance at the event with school spirit beginning on the buses that brought each school team to VSU. Hamish Brewer, author of Relentless: Changing Lives by Disrupting the Educational Norm, was the keynote speaker. Prior to the event Brewer joined Dr. Daugherty in welcoming CCPS educators, signing autographs and posing for selfies with many.

The event was sponsored by The Robins Foundation as part of a multi-year strategic partnership between CCPS, CEF and the Robins Foundation. Following the Convocation Robins Foundation Vice President, Programs & Innovation Robert Dortch congratulated Dr. Daugherty writing, “Our teachers and students deserve this type of creativity, energy and commitment that was displayed throughout the event. At Robins, we are glad to call you our strategic partner in helping to impact and transform the lives of teachers and children in Chesterfield County.“
