(Chesterfield, VA – October 2019) Chesterfield Education Foundation (CEF) is proud to announce its partnership with Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) in providing free SAT tests to ALL 11th grade students and the expansion of the Practice SAT program to include students in 8th and 9th grades. “This program is all about providing equitable educational opportunities. This is exactly what the Foundation was founded to do. We are honored to be part of getting this program started in our county schools,” explained Gary Armstrong, President of the CEF Board of Trustees. Armstrong joins CCPS Superintendent Mervin Daugherty and representatives from College Board, the non-profit organization responsible for developing, administering and scoring the PSAT and SAT tests, in announcing this two-year collaboration, after which the school system will include the cost of providing the tests into the school system’s budget.
Chesterfield Education Foundation will raise nearly $110,000 a year for the next two years to enable the school system to implement the program this school year. CEF has provided support for the school system since its founding in 1989. Now celebrating 30 years of collaboration with CCPS, CEF has reached out to the greater Richmond community to find funding partners for this initiative. “Our business community is very enthusiastic about this initiative,” explains Tyren Frazier, CEF Executive Director, “since August we have raised over $65,000 in support of this program and we have yet to reach out to parents and other individuals who may wish to “Pay it Forward,” providing an SAT for a student.”
To date funding has been provided by the Community Foundation for a greater Richmond, Dominion Energy, Altria, Shamin Hotels, Genworth, West Cary Group, ChamberRVA, and Virginia Credit Union. Mrs. Sue Fulghum contributed to the initiative in memory of her late husband and former Superintendent of Chesterfield County Public Schools, Thomas R. Fulghum.
